Backyard patio

Backyard patio

This landscape had been a muddy mess before we installed this patio and rain gardens (not seen here) to help control water flow, drainage and erosion.  Now the homeowners enjoy a low maintenance, beautiful landscape.

Rain garden

Rain garden

A rain garden we designed and built for a private school in Boyce, VA.  The water from the school's roof is piped into this bio-filter made entirely of native plants and is cleaned before running off into local streams.

The natural

The natural

An office building in Reston, VA took a more natural approach to their landscape to help support local wildlife.

Why not have some native plants instead of lawn?

Why not have some native plants instead of lawn?

Native plants like these Palm Sedge are more adapted to live in situations like this one. Where others may have put in high maintenance lawn, we put in low maintenance pollinator gardens.

One of our more beautiful native plants is Skullcap (Scutellaria incana)

Meadow

Meadow

If you can eliminate lawn and replace it with more diverse wildflower plantings, you’ll improve the beauty and diversity you see every day.

Winter interest

Winter interest

So many ignore the beauty of different seasons by only selecting evergreens.

Stiff Goldenrod

Stiff Goldenrod

There are many great Goldenrods for the garden and none of them cause Hay Fever. That would be Rag Weed which blooms at the same time, but blooms green, so many don’t notice it nearby. Goldenrods are also some of the most important nectar plants for migrating insects.

Joe Pye

Joe Pye Weed blooms in the summer and feeds a large number of pollinators,

“In the past, we have asked one thing of our gardens: that they be pretty. Now they have to support life, sequester carbon, feed pollinators and manage water.” — DOUG TALLAMY
